Winter Solstice – From Dark to Light

Tonight is the winter solstice.  What this means is that it is the longest night of the year, as well as the beginning of winter. It symbolizes a rebirth and a return to light.

Yes, it’s very dark outside.  However, the light is coming.  It won’t get darker.

Think of it as the dark meeting the light.  The dark being the long night, and the light beginning to shine a bit more with the coming longer days.

So, what does this mean for you?

It’s an opportunity to reimagine yourself.  Leave the past in the past and select the future you would like to create.

If you were a character in a book, what would you like the character to be, have, or do?  Your life doesn’t have to be filled with drama trauma.  You get to choose.

Four Steps to a New You

  1. Reflect: It’s a time to reflect on your life. Take some quiet time and meditate, journal, or in some way look within you about what is working in your life and what it is you would like to be different.

  2. Release: It’s within your power to change your life and let go of what no longer works for you. By doing this, you are opening a space within you for something new to come in.  If you don’t “throw out the garbage,” it’s hard to bring in something “better.”

So, take time to consciously choose to delete and clear the emotions surrounding anything that isn’t working. Once you do this, you will find that all that is left is just a story and it no longer triggers you.  This opens the space within you for the light to come forth.

  3. Choose Your Intentions: Once you make space by letting go of what no longer works for you, you get to choose how you would like to live your life. You get to make up the rules that work for you.  You get to choose what you would like to have happen by choosing what you focus on.

Set aside some time to choose what it is you would like to focus on in the next year.  If you choose to focus on 100 things, then you aren’t really focusing on any of them. So, choose about five things.  Keep the list small.

However, if you have a large list, then look for the common denominator.  What is it that you truly want by having all of the things on your list?  Then focus on that common denominator and see what shows up in your life.  Chances are, it may be better than you ever imagined...if you are allowing the possibility for something even better to show up.

  4. Act:  Now that you know what your intentions are, it’s time to act.  Start living your life from those intentions.  Look at every aspect of your life and see what it would take to live your intentions.

One of my intentions is to be creative.  I can look at my projects (writing, painting, etc.) and see the creativity very easily.  In other areas of my life, it’s more of a challenge.  It’s these areas in which inspired ideas will guide me as I listen to my intuition, knowing that something even better is a possibility.  I’m excited to see how this creativity shows up in my life throughout the year.

Tonight is your opportunity to imagine what it is that you would like to leave in 2022 (all the stuff that triggers you and no longer works for you).  And it’s an opportunity to choose what it is you would like to create in 2023.

You get to choose what you would like to focus on this next year.  You are the only one living your life.  It’s up to you.
